About Our Personal Training ServicesOur Personal Training Services, or OPT Services, were founded by Amanda Sallander, BA, CPT, RYT. Amanda believed that she could reach out to people and motivate them to a healthier lifestyle. She understood that lack of time and motivation were two major hurdles that people encounter when trying to start-up and maintain an exercise program. Therefore, she wanted to create a plan where fitness/health professionals were able to service residential, business, recreational, educational, and medical communities . Furthermore, to create an enjoyable and stress-free environment where people have an opportunity to learn and feel empowered¦where people choose to incorporate fitness and health into their everyday life.
Amanda Sallander, BA, CPT, RYT-500 has been in the fitness and wellness industry for over 10 years. She started as a gymnastics coach, and then later got involved in group fitness training and personal training through the organizations of AFAA and ACE. Having received her Bachelor's in Education at Illinois State University, Amanda seeks to educate and motivate others to a greater sense of self-awareness and empowerment, passionate about making a difference. She believes that education is a vital component in motivating others to achieve a more fulfilling and happy and healthy life. Through her experiences with International Travel and performing in Circus Shows with partner balancing, strength, and acro-yoga techniques, Amanda used yoga as an outlet to prepare mentally and physically and calm her performance-like nerves. She found herself running into other yoga instructors, acupuncturists, therapists, shamans etc. on her travels when she was ready to embrace more of her spiritual side which supported her belief in the saying: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
In 2008 Amanda began her yoga studies at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas where she completed her 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training. She spent her next few years living in San Diego as a Fitness Director and Service Site Coordinator/Lead Personal Trainer at an On-Site Fitness Company and local Racquetball Club while also teaching at a studio and training personal clients. Yoga Therapy, an integrative approach of both western and eastern medicine and traditions that reflects the way yoga was originally practiced in India: working with a teacher guiding you based on your individual challenges and strengths became an interest to her as she also had to learn the challenge of healing her own aches and pains that sometimes came with Degenerative Disc Disease, a degeneration in the spine. She received 300 additional hours of training in learning how to address specific illnesses and health challenges (including obesity, diabetes, insomnia, cardiac issues, asthma, cancer, grief, aging, osteoporosis, arthritis, anxiety, depression, stress management, pain management and more) at the Ananda Seva Yoga Therapy Program in Santa Rosa, CA. There she received her RYT-500 certification under the study and disclipine of Gloria Tucker MD, Jnani Chapman RN, Avadhutika Ananda Deviika Ma Acharya MSC, Maetreyii Nolan PhD, Kelly McGonigal PhD, Richard Miller PhDM, Antonio Sausys MA, Carol Hince MSPT, and Mukunda Stiles (creator of Structural Yoga Therapy) Besides Yoga Therapy, her specialties include Functional Training to help her clients improve biomechanics and flexibility as well as Corrective Exercise for those with stability and mobility issues.
Amanda now resides in Northbrook, IL enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge with others and looks to reach out, touch, and move others to that space of health and healing where that inner light is capable of shining bright. On her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading a good book, writing a poem, and dancing or being active in any way.
