FindMyTrainer co-founder Christina Dorlig had a weight loss wakeup call that came in the form of a carjacking. The then college freshman had gained the freshman 15, plus 20. An additional 35 pounds to a frame that had always been larger made her feel less motivated than ever. An athlete in high school, the pounds packed on fast once she was sitting at a desk, exposed to fast food chains not available in her small hometown in Idaho, and not exercising on a regular basis or at all. The true wake up came on a Saturday afternoon while she was sitting in her car eating a sandwich that was 75% larger than all other sandwich options and packed a punch of 720 calories and 40 grams of fat. Keep in mind there were also large fries and a soda included. Not knowingly she was being approached from behind by an assailant with a gun. Held up at gunpoint and thrown from her car, she was carjacked. She couldn't help but think if she had gotten smaller sandwich she would have finished before the thieves had a chance to target her. Within a year she had dropped the 35 pounds she gained as a freshman plus an additional 25.
This incredible weight loss was due to shame from the incident as well as motivation to not be victimized by anyone or any weight. Regular gym visits as well as racquetball became part of her routine. In 2005, after years of advising her friends and family on how she did it, she applied her degree in Human Biology and became a personal trainer. No clients ever believed that she once was 60 pounds heavier. Pictures were the only way to convince her clients that she wasn't born this way and that they too could harness their dreams if they just followed her advice.
In 2006 she teamed up with a highly experienced and talented web developer to pursue her dream of making finding a personal trainer easy for anyone, on any budget, anywhere at the click of a button. This web developer and FindMyTrainer co-founder is now her husband and together they have built a very unique and effective way to connect those looking for a trainer with personal trainers in their area. Christina has always felt that fitness should be accessible to anyone. Finding the right trainer can be half the battle so developing the FindMyTrainer system was the perfect way to give personal trainers the exposure they need as well as allow great functionality for people who are looking to make a change and want some guidance and motivation. Keeping the costs extremely affordable for trainers has always been very important to her as she knows that at times it can be hard to make ends meet for personal trainers. Connecting people who need each other has always been the number one goal. Everyone deserves to experience what success feels like.
